LP Assembly aspirant’s murder: Obiangwu women demand justice

The women of Obiangwu Autonomous community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State last weekend held a peaceful protest over the brutal murder of the
Labour Party House of Assembly candidate, Andrew Ugwuezumba.

The women, who marched through the villages in the community tasked security agencies in the state to quickly fish out those behind his death.

According to the women leader, Mrs. Rose Anyanwu, the protest had become necessary after the police appeared to be uninterested in fishing out those who murdered their son in a cold blood.

She pointed out that the women were in tears because the murder of Andrew had brought severe hardship on his immediate family members and the community at large.

She said they were not satisfied with police investigations so far, insisting that they would not relent until the perpetrators were captured and made to face the law, adding that it was only justice that could stop the demonstration.

She, however, thanked the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Samuel Odu, for his support to ensure that justice prevailed and also for his corporation in their agitation.

“ We will not stop protesting until the government and the police do the right thing for the community to have rest,” she said.

Speaking also, a brother to the deceased, Mr. Stanislaus Ugwuezumba, lamented that since one Mr. Francis Ikechukwu Aririonu was arrested in connection to the matter he was not satisfied with the speed of the case, stating that the authorities concerned especially the police ought to show more commitment to the case to avoid the people taking laws into their hands.

Stanislaus, who said Andrew was murdered on his way home after a political meeting in March 2015, along the airport road also advised the police to use the evidence they had to unmask those behind the murder.
